Request for Biostatistical Consulting Proposals

Applications accepted on rolling basis until funds are depleted

The purpose of the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy Biostatistical Consulting Grant (BCG) is to support best practices in research design, data collection, statistical analysis and interpretation of research conducted by Academy members, in order to advance acute care physical therapy research.

To be eligible to receive the Academy’s BCG, the investigator must be a member in good standing of the Academy.

The Academy will award up to 10 hours of biostatistical consulting support each year. BCG funds may support research expenses such as assistance with study design, power analysis to determine appropriate sample size, identification of the appropriate statistical approaches, completion of the statistical analysis, and interpretation of study findings. It is expected that the BCG will provide ancillary support to projects, and funding is not expected to meet all biostatistical needs to complete a research project.

Application Process:

Academy members should complete the BCG application form, located at the bottom of this page.
Please complete the form in its entirety. Since the BCG is designed to support but not completely overtake data analysis for a project, please be certain to identify the aspects that your study team can complete independently, and the type of assistance you seek.

Additional appendices are not required, but they are permitted if they help the reviewers to understand the project. Useful appendices may include: a research protocol, notice of IRB approval, list of key personnel and their responsibilities, and data collection forms, if applicable.

Review Process:

Applications can be submitted on a rolling basis until all funds are spent. Applications will be reviewed and finding eligibility determined by the Biostatistical and Epidemiology Research Design Core at the University of Florida Clinical Translational Science Institute.

Award recipients will be notified by the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy Research Committee, and awardees will have 1 year to complete their biostatstical consultation. Funds will be released directly to the biostatistical consultant.

Responsibilities of Grant Awardees:

Grant recipients are required to complete the following items:

  1. A one-page progress summary must be submitted twelve months after the award date of the grant.
  2. Published manuscripts/reports include acknowledgement of the grant support by the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy and statistical key contributions by the Biostatistical and Epidemiology Research Design Core. Receipt of a research grant does not guarantee acceptance into the Journal for Acute Care Physical Therapy.
  3. The financial support of Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy must be acknowledged in published research articles and/or scientific poster/platform presentations at professional meetings.
