Call for Educational Session Proposals and Poster Abstracts

for the

Bridge the Gap: Using Simulation to Advance Acute Care Physical Therapy





Nov. 5-8, 2020

University of South Florida | Tampa

Submission Deadline: March 6, 2020

The Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy of the APTA is excited to announce a call for abstracts focused on simulation and acute care physical therapy education and training. Proposals for poster presentation and 90-minute educational sessions are welcome and will be accepted for a wide audience ranging from novice to advanced simulation educators. The audience will include, but is not limited to, physical therapy faculty members, clinical educators, and any other individuals involved in acute care simulation education, including residency and fellowship education.

Purpose: Presentations are intended to facilitate the dissemination of current research and innovative programming that is occurring in acute care physical therapist education and simulation. The conference will take place at a state of the art simulation center; proposals for educational sessions that provide active and innovative simulation experiences are strongly encouraged to submit for review. A variety of abstract types including case studies, research, special interest and/or theoretical reports, and method/model presentations are considered for inclusion. Current works in progress focused on both entry level and residency/fellowship education are welcome. 

Proposals are Requested for the Following Conference Themes:

  • Fidelity: Choosing Level of Fidelity to Maximize Learning and How to Deliver a Cost-Effective Simulation
  • Clinical Education: CI Training Through Simulation and How to Incorporate Simulation into Clinical Education Experiences
  • Simulation Across the Educational Continuum: From Entry Level Through New Hire and Residency
  • Early Adopters and Pioneers: Advocating for a Simulation Program and Faculty Training
  • When Things Don't Go Well: Problem Solving Based on Pedagogy and Learning Theory
  • Keys for Success: Prebriefing and Debriefing
  • Innovations in Simulation: Telehealth, Virtual Reality, and Beyond

Peer Review Process:  A Bridge the Gap Review Committee, whose decisions are final, make the determination of acceptance/non-acceptance.  Submissions are accepted from Feb. 1 through March 6, 2020.  Email notification will be provided to the primary author regarding the status of the abstract by April 30, 2020.  All presenters of accepted educational sessions and posters are required to register and pay the full conference registration fee. Poster presenters are expected to engage in discussion of their posters on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 between 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Submission Process: All Educational Session Proposals and Poster Abstracts must be submitted electronically via the appropriate link below by Midnight (Eastern) on March 6, 2020.
