Candidate Statement:

The AACPT is privileged to have strong leadership, committed to advancing the Academy's mission of fostering clinical excellence that enhances the health and functioning of those we treat.  Constructively responding to recent external market forces necessitates commitment to standardization of practice, elimination of waste, and development of practice guidelines that improve the quality of acute care delivery. Today, physical therapists are increasingly required to shift focus away from volume-based models of care delivery and, instead, define how they contribute to interdisciplinary team goals of care outcomes within their respective institutions.  The Academy has at its disposal a tremendous breadth of membership experience from diverse practice settings. It will be essential to leverage this talent pool to develop cost-effective, value-driven metrics that define, aggregate, measure and disseminate standardized outcomes. The Academy should facilitate development of mobile self-service tools for members that improve care and clearly demonstrate the eminent value of acute care therapy.  Futhermore, Academy leadership should continue to collectively raise awareness of the positive impact acute care physical therapy has on the health and functional abilities of patients. We must strategically prepare for disruptions in the industry and advocate on behalf of our members, highlighting the value they provide.
