PTA Member at Large

APTA activities or positions held

I was the Chair of the task Force that created the document “Core Competencies for the Entry-Level PTA in The Acute Care Setting and I was responsible for emailing this to 301 PTA schools with follow up. I am currently the Mississippi Physical Therapy PTA Caucus Representative.  I am the current PTA at Large for the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy. I have manned the Academy of Acute Care’s booth at CSM and Next. I have participated in the Strategic Planning meeting for the Academy of Acute Care. I was a speaker at the NEXT Conference 2018. I have presented a power point presentation on how to use the Core Competency document twice.

Candidate Statement:

I feel that the Academy can offer more continuing education courses throughout the year. Engage the colleges and universities to identify those students interested in Acue Care PT. Provide incentives like 1 year, 5 year, 10 year membership pins. I have actively engaged in recruitment of PTs and PTAs during my first term. I believe that the Academy can advertise more effectively the pro-PTA atmosphere in order to recruit more PTAs. I have spoken of the pro-PTO atmosphere on several occassions in the PTA Caucus. I would like to see CAPTE mandate an Acute Care rotation prior to graduation from PT or PTA school. I am actively involved with the #PTA10K movement trying to increase PTA membership in te APTA which hopefully will increase the Academy's membership also. I would like to see an incentive plan from the Academy to recruit PT and PTA Clinical Instructors, maybe they could get a free pin or shirt or something. I would like to see the Academy promote the idea that Acute Care PT is a gateway to future PT, it is possible that this is the first exposure to what PT is, and we should capitalize on this.
