About the Webinar:

Simulation has been increasingly more utilized in physical therapy education in recent years. However, the implementation of simulation in curriculum is not without challenges. Physical therapy education is in need of an innovative method of simulation that is cost and time effective, improves critical thinking skills, and allows exposure to a wide variety of clinical situations in order to meet the challenges of producing competent physical therapists in modern healthcare settings. Computer-based simulations can serve as one solution to those challenges.

The purpose of this session is to explore the benefits of computer-based simulation in physical therapy education. Computer-based simulations can enhance student clinical reasoning within the framework of Guide to Physical Therapist Practice and ultimately, improve patient care and clinical outcomes. Through demonstration and lecture the speakers will provide a session on current challenges to implementing simulation, unique benefits of computer-based simulation in physical therapy education, and how this mode of simulation assists programs in meeting CAPTE requirements. The session will also describe methods for implementing computer-based simulation effectively into curriculum.

Learning objectives:
  1. Define different types of simulation modalities and how to select an appropriate modality to meet specific learning objectives.
  2. Discuss the challenges and benefits of implementing simulation in physical therapy programs.
  3. Describe the unique benefits of computer-based simulation.
  4. Identify the appropriate steps and components for successfully implementing computer-based simulation in physical therapy education.
